Delay from park to drive

I have a 1981 F150 supercab, 302 with C6. The trans fluid and filter was recently changed. No leaks. On the first start in the morning when going from park to drive there is a long delay before engagement, on cold morning as long as several minutes. Once it is warmed up and driven it operates fine. If parked for more than an hour the delay returns. Reverse is ok and it makes no noise, shififng is as smooth as it was 15 years ago when I bought the truck. It is a work truck but I do not pull much with it anymore. Any suggetions appreciated.
