E4OD ( 95 ) Is it really junk?
E4OD ( 95 ) Is it really junk?
The few threads I could find, leads me to believe the E4OD is junk. UhOh, I just bought one with 153K on it. Am I doomed?
I do plan on towing with it ( 4500# camper ).

Hi...John from the pre-'97 thread here. I found this quote after a little looking. I think the answer is that you have a good transmission for towing. Like anything else, as long as it was cared for throughout it's life, you will be fine.

Here's the quote:
"...the E4OD is one of Fords best heavy duty transmissions of all time. It shares a few components a with the c-6. it is used in F150's with tow package up to the F450's and also used in the Ambulance's it is a huge beast and it will take a beating. As long as you dont abuse it by neglect to change fluid or it leaks its fluid out and burns up. It will not give you any problems. Stay away from shady aftermarket torque converters that transmission shops install. I have had a few of them (no names) tear up in customers vehicles. and every time the converter man came around I had him take it back and cut open the converter and show me. They only credit they gave me was for the converter itself. No money for labor or the overhaul that I had to re do. I no longer use anything from these people. If you can afford a Ford converter get it"

By the way, I think the styling and looks on our '95's are some of the best F150's ever. Don't you agree? Although the '05's look pretty sharp!
Good luck...and get out there and camp already, willya?

Yea, I like this Ford. This is only my 2nd Ford truck ( I'm 43 ). First one was an 89 I6 5speed manual, no AC. I only kept it for 6 months and bought something else. I normally drive Chevy's and Dodges, latlely, nothing but Dodges ( and 1 Cherokee ). Also my first high milage vehicle. Since I already have 2 vehicle payments, I had to buy something cheap. Only time will tell if I'm going to be happy.
As for camping, it too dang cold here. I'm awaiting for some green grass first.

I'll go along with the styling being great but I have not seen good things from the ford automatics from that period. It's like anything else though, if it was taken care of it will last quite a while.
