Tranny Help!!!!!!!!

Ok since I had no luck identifying my transmission in earlier post maybe some of you got ideas. Bought a 1978 f150 it has 351W motor. Tranny is a four speed manual. Vin# is no use seeing that is says truck has 3 speed and a six cylinder. 1st gear works great 2nd no problem 4th and reverse no prob. 3rd is the prob. On a 40 mile drive home from buying it I was able to get it into 3rd a total of 4 times. Only manual ford tranny I ever messed with the linkage was on the outside of the tranny. This is all inner. I have tried internet searches but without knowing which tranny it is I have had no luck. This is only thing keeping truck off the road because it wouldnt pass inspection since the inspector NEVER got in into 3rd. HELP......

Did you try to speed-match it, or were you relying on the clutch?

Are you sure that truck has a Windsor motor in it? I'm fairly certain that only the 351M's were offered in that year for the 150's.

I am pretty positive its a windor.....truck is a combo of 2 trucks one is a 76 and other is 78. motor is out of the 78 which according to the VIN is a 351w. Tranny doesnt match either set of VIN numbers I got. Both originally had 3 speeds. I did get it shifting better yesterday. I took the it apart out of curiousity, didnt really do anything to it and put it back together. something must not have been in sync cause after I put it back together it shifts much better now. Found the casting numbers on tranny and discovered it a Borg Warner T-18 tranny. Doesnt please me cause I didnt want such low gears. Oh well I will do till I find what I want. Thanks for the input though.

I thought the 78 trucks had 400m's instead of 351w's.
