how long do i have?

i just bought my 98 f150 4x4 about 2 months ago. it has a 4.6L with automatic trans. currently i have about 105,xxx miles on it I was wondering how long do these transmissions usually last? anything i can do to prevent it? other than trans flush? help is greatly appreciated.

With the mileage you have on it, I would service it per the scheduled maintenance guide, if you have one. Usually about every 30,000 miles, and be SURE to use the right fluid. The type of fluid should be on the tranny dipstick. Use only that fluid.

Unless you know it's been flushed allready, don't get the trans flushed now. You will need to drop the pan and change the fluid the old fassion way. I've heard horror stories of people that bought used vehicles with 100,000 miles, had the fluids all flushed, and the tranny go in a couple thousand miles.
