found 65 F100 tranny

The truck has a 390FE not sure what FE stands for i think the tranny is a 4-speed with a granny. and i was woundering if that tranny would bolt up to my 1990 302 with 4x4. Right now i have the madza 5-speed and its about to go out on me.

thanks in advanced

390 is a big block, 302 is a small block. The tranny bellhousings and bolt patterns are different.

FE is the engine series. 360, 390 and a big one (428?).

If the transmission in your '90 has a removable bell housing the swap may be doable. I had a '65 F100 with the FE motor and 3 speed tranny that I replaced with the granny 4 speed from an early 80s F250 using the bell housing from my old 3 speed. So the tranny may bolt to the bell housing from your current 5 speed, or you may be able to get a bell housing from an older truck that will work. My biggest problem was finding a floor pan/trans cover that would work. The granny gear 4 speeds are BIG friggin' units. Where the original transmission fit under the floor easily, I had to cut a large hole in the floor and bolt up a raised cover to fit the 4 speed.

As for the output side, you'll most likely have output shaft/transfer case mating issues to resolve.

FE stands for Factory Engineered. This would include the 352,360,390,and 428 CI.All of these motors will have a "352" embossed on the front drivers side of the block right below where the head meets the block. They were very popular with racers in the late 60's and early 70's.
