buying 97 f-150 clutch question

http://autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?ca...p=y&cardist=24

That is the truck i am getting. He is most likely delivering it this week. It has the updated 4.2 without all the engine problems. It has 4k miles on the engine and 130 on the body and frame. For 4 grand would you say that is a good deal?
My question is when i let it out in first at lower rpm it seemed to chatter a bit. I did not notice it when i let the clutch out with a little more throttle applied. My dad seems to think the clutch plates might be warped or something. Is that a possibility? Or is a slight lurch/jerkiness normal if you let the clutch out without enough rpms?
For for grand i think i am just going to get it. How much is a new clutch? Would it be worth it?

Thanks, ryan

anyone know why the clutch would chatter. Could it be because he did not turn the flywheel before he assembled it?

There is no chatter on our 97, but it is the origional 4.6. It does slip but thats cuz it needs changed, which we are putting off as long as possible.

Depends on the diameter, usually 40-50 bucks. Some parts stores have flywheels ready to go. You just bring the old one with you, or pay the core and bring it back later.

For a few years mine chattered when the clutch was depressed because an ID tag inside the heat sheild of the CAT had broken free. It didn't always do it and it was almost impossible to get out without taking off the heat sheild and rewelding it. It was very hard to locate since there are 4 of them and it echoed off the tranny. Even tapping on them didn't duplicate the sound for quite some time. Anyway, I'd definitly look at the CATs before I dropped the tranny. Good Luck on your new truck.

I see what your saying.. But the chatter is more of a jerk, slipping of the clutch. I hear if the flywheel wasnt turned it would be too smooth and the plates wouldnt grab right. And they would slip for a little bit, causing a jerking. O well, ill check it out when i get the truck. thanks

Is it 4x4? then from what i have heard it is a real pain to get to the clutch. Main reason we are puttin off our clutch job till we cant even pass a yugo.
