How to get tranny fluid out..

Well, i was considering doing the whole "drop the tranny pan" thing to relieve it of a few pints of fluid, but then i got to thinking... about what i used to put the seafoam through my PCV system... which was an adapter piece with another smaller piece of hose attached to it..... i wondered if sticking something down the tranny dipstick to syphon the fluid out versus taking the pan off and potentially breaking the seal, and definately straining myself more than i needed to.... so i went to the parts store and grabbed about 4 feet of 1/4" thick (maybe slightly thinner) clear tubing.... and a fitting with multiple break off down sizers on both ends... then i put the adapter on one end of the hose attached to my suction pump (looks like a big cylinder with a T bar at the top, and a line of hose coming out of the bottom... pull the T bar handle and it sucks crap into the cylinder... im sure many of the seasoned mechanics here know what im talking about) and the other end to the 4' clear line... and stuck it in my dipstick hole and took out what i needed, and left behind a perfect fluid line (right in the middle of the crosshatch) so for those of you wanting to take out some fluid of your tranny and think the only way to do it is to take the pan down, maybe this will help you the other option of course, is to go and buy a drain plug kit... about 10 bucks or so, and all you do is take your pan off... drill a 1/2" hole, and put the drain plug kit in the whole and secure it with 2 nuts. Ill be doing that when i change my filter

Good info, too bad. You could have posted it to the transmission forum.

They also make a 12v hand held unit for fluids, and a tall clear container that hooks up to shop air that creates a vacuum, it has a bunch of different tips for different apps.

So in that case, what's the use of having all these different forums anyway. If everybody did that, we would only have one huge forum

I don't believe Cliles5 was being mean, just pointing out the obvious. Others before have posted in the wrong forum and when they notice it or were informed about it, they simply correct it without insult and generaly with a thanks for the "heads up".

I think the setup I use to change my oil would work for you as well.

I use a Pela 6000 to change the oil in my car at home. The filter on my TDI is a cartridge type that I access on the front top of the motor so I don't even have to go underneath at all.

The Pela is a vacuum type extractor with a handle you pump up a bit to create the vacuum (20 pumps then walk away for 10 minutes and get a drink). I can't say enough good things about this setup. As for those that don't think it'll get all the oil it has markings on the side and you can see how many quarts have been removed. I get as much as I would from the traditional method so I'm pretty happy.

I am fairly certain the extractor tube will easily fit in the transmission dipstick tube unless it has some wicked bends in it.

The other benefit is the handle and spout provided for easily moving the spent oil to another container for disposal.

I went with the B&M drain plug kit on mine. Now I just changed the fluid in the tranny pan every time I change my oil.

I know. If a sarcastic smiley was an option, I'd of used it instead of laughy. I don't think any tears will be shed.
