take it back to the tranny shop and tell them that your truck takes merc v and that you want them to reflush the system and install the correct fluid as soon as posible at no charge

That's right! Make them put Mercon V in it or you will lose your tranny! Tranny shops seem to be illiterate when it comes to reading the dipstick. You should not have to pay again to have it flushed and refilled with the proper fluid.

Yes get them to Flush the system and put in MERCON V.

From what I've read else whare in these forums. Ford Switched to MERCON V in 1998 because of transmission failures with MERCON.

As an alternative you could get an addative made by LUBEGARD.
LUBEGARD M-V Supplement or LUBEGARD PLATINUM® Universal ATF Protectant

Either of them will convert Standard MERCON to MERCON V. Lot's of shops use them so they don't have to stock the higher costing MERCON V.

A lot of shops are making that mistake! Hell, one shop I went to wanted to top off my trans with "multi-purpose atf" . Good thing I saw them and stopped them.

I'd demand for a flush and refill also.

If it's a 4R100, it has to have MERCON, only the 4R70W can upgrade to MERCON V, it will dissolve the seals in a 4R100/E4OD.

Direct from the manual of the F-150

Some transmission fluids may be labeled as dual usage fluids, such as
MERCON and MERCON V. These dual usage fluids are not to be used in
an automatic transmission that requires the use of MERCON type fluid.
However, these fluids may be used in transmissions that require MERCON V type fluid.

MERCON AND MERCON V type fluids are not interchangeable. DO NOT mix MERCON and MERCON V. Use of transmission fluid that indicates dual usage (MERCON and MERCON V) in an automatic transmission application requiring MERCON may cause transmission damage. Use of any fluid other than the reccomended fluid may cause transmission damage.
