shift kit for 97 f150

I am considering a shift kit for my 97 f150. Which brand is best, and what is the average cost of one installed? Any help would be appreciated. Also, when you have a shift kit installed, is it good to go ahead and change the tranny filter, also? Maybe even upgrade to synthetic?

Um, no one has any input? Would yall go with a jet, transgo, ford racing, or the factory tech valve body? I would really appreciate any replies.

For a truck I would use the factory tech valvebody. Stay away from the transgo.

Bah,,

I just put a transgo in my E40D (97 F150). Much better shifting, tighter and firmer, and it works great.

And it was 80.00 vs what the cost of a ftvb would cost.

Its a no brainer.

Yeah don't bother getting something from someone who helped design the transmission get something from a company that is known to destroy them. I haven't heard results on the e40d transgo kit but the 4r70w is worthless. If you use it all you'll fry your trans. If you don't you won't feel much difference.

I'm no tranny expert but I have the transgo kit in my tuck w/ a 4R70W for a couple of years now and the shifts have been improved greatly over the stock configuration, there was a noticeable change.

Factory Tech was'nt making valve bodies or monster boxes at the time I installed the Transgo kit or I might have invested in one. I must honestly say that I've never heard another person make those claims about Transgo kits though?

Again, just my opinion based on my own experiences.

Read up a little on tccoa.com about it the transgo has a bunch of issues and is known to fry the overdrive band. Warning don't jmod a truck valvebody. I recently had an engineer from a very well respected performance parts company give me a lecture about all the bad things transgo does. FYI I am not talking about factory tech.

News to me. Lots of us have Transgo kits in or trucks. Please pass on what you know and enlighten us.

Thanx in advance.

Oh my there are so many threads on the subject on TCCOA. I don't know where to begin. For starters the spool valve is crap, The performance gain isn't much, and the shift kit removes some pressure from the overdrive band causing the band life to be shortened. Most of the improvements can be made by drilling holes in the seperator plate and changing springs in the accumulators. Cars accept this well trucks are a little more finicky and need different springs in the valvebody itself. The factory tech valvebody is the only kit I know of that works properly on trucks and actually extends transmission life. I have watched/helped Gregg build these and there is alot more to it than there seems.
