down shifting problem

I have a 1993 F150 with a 302. When I am drive down the road and put the throttle to the floor is won't down shift, but I can put the shifter into a lower gear and it with shift down. Could this be the tps sensor? Any suggestions.

It should shift if you tell it to by the lever though this could be unsafe if you downshift too far, this will cause overrev of the engine and could cause all types of problems. I'm not too familier with the 93 F-150 but depending on the tranny type it could either be controlled by the TPS sensor and the computer or it is controlled by a vacuum line. If the vacuum line is the case, it could be as simple as replacing the vacuum hose to fix it. Every now and then a hose such as that may have come loose which can cause that problem.

blew the vacuum line idea then, oh well. Did you check all of the wires that are heading to your tranny? We did have one that was corroded so badly on my buddies mustang that the wire just fell out of the connector once it was touched, same thing happened on my girls 99 escort.

Check the connector on your TPS sensor also. The TPS does send a signal to the vechile computer to tell the tranny if you are mashing the gas, there are other sensors that tell the computer to downshift the tranny too, if you tranny is downshifting for a stop sign/light. If you are starting from a stop in first gear, I would look tword the TPS.
