Unhappy Ahh... the smell of burning

Ok, so I have a 99 4.6L V8 that I bought 1½ years ago (used with 44k miles, they said everything was good), with the stock 4 speed transmission, tell me if this sounds odd to you (btw, this was a few months ago)

I was racing a friend (I drive really fast, this is normal for me) and we came up to a red light. The light turned green, I gunned it, and didn't move for a second. The engine rev'd, then SLAMMED first gear. I mean, really really really hard. It was probably in the 2-3k rpm's before it shifted. About 5 mins later, I came up to a red light, and smelled burning. I got to my destination ($tarBucks) where my buddies and I play cards at night, and was really reluctant to drive home. I checked the transmission fluid, and was shocked.

The stick came out dry as a bone. And not just once, maybe 5 or 6 times.

I was baffled; I had just checked it properly no more than a month and a half ago, and it was just fine.

So the next day I limped it to the dealer (it's only a few blocks away, thank God), and told them I smelled a burning smell, in addition to drips from the entire underbody of the car (I determined this to be tranny fluid, since it was reddish). I mean, it just coated my gas tank. So they checked it, and said I had a fubar'd rear shield and a fubar'd drive shaft. Since this was under warranty, I only had to pay for labor (or something). Does this sound like bs to you? Also, this happened a few weeks after using a Superchips tuner, where a buddy and I increased the shift points and pressure. Did this really screw up my tranny, or was it a long way coming? Should I see someone else about it?
