what transmission?

I have a '97 f150 4.6 4x4 auto, just wondering if there is any way to determine which trans it might be? Might there be anything stamped on the housing?

Yep, its a "U" code. I have the old 4.6 out of the truck and i'm installing a 2002 5.4 w/ lightning SC'er , so will the stock TQ converter i have work (withstand) with this motor or should I upgrade?

depends how much you juice up the "L" motor, see sig and gallery. I got an art carr converter $$ but it is holding up so far. I also upgraded the tranny, race build, artcarr clutch pack (extra clutches plates), hardened intermediate shaft and FTVB!

yeah, I was going to leave the motor pretty much in its stock trim. Do you know if the 5.4 and the 4.6 w/ the 4r70w use the same converter?

not 100% certain but if you go into the supercharger/turbo forum find "iron horse" he is doing the swap also from a 4.6 and has been doing some converter research. he will be glad to help you and probably has the answer you are looking for. at the minimum i'd put a FTVB then run the tranny till it blows then get a race build and upgrade the above.
