Any answers to the E4OD hard shift problem?

I have seen a few people with the Hard shift problem on the E4OD transmission simmilar to the one that I have. I was wondering if anyone has come to a final conclusion as to what is causing the problem. I get Code 628 every now and then when it shifts hard, and as soon as I clear it, it will shift fine for a while. I also have a swinging Speedometer when ever it gets above 35mph. I changed the Speed sensor in the rear Diff, but it still swings back and forth like an unlubed speedo cable. I was lead to believe that the exciter ring in the diff may be the culperate for the swinging speedo, and it seems to me that this may in turn result in a trans shift problem. Does ANYONE have a solid answer that fixed their prob? Has anyone had to replace the exciter ring in the diff? and if so what was that like?
