F150 Manual Transmission problems

At first I couldn't get my shift lever to go into 1st gear then when I shifted to 2nd the shifter went basically all the way to the seat, like it went right through 2nd gear. The rest of the gears are fine. So far from what I've found it looks like Ford uses a Mazda M5R2 transmission in the F150 series but I haven't found anyone that has had a similar problem.
Right now it seems to go into 1st,3rd,4th,5th, and reverse but when going into 2nd it seems to go through the gear, for a lack of a better way of explaining it.
Has anyone heard of a problem like this?
1997 Ford F150 4.6L 5 speed manual trany.

Here's a bump for you man but sorry I can't provide info on a similar experience. Have you been racing? Any chance that you "shelled" 2nd gear?
