There's not a TC drain plug on a 2003 4R70W. There are several ways to do it. You can have it flushed by a dealer with a flushing machine. I don't prefer it, but you can remove the transmission lines and run the vehicle as you pour and gather. The simple method is to drop the pan, install a drain plug, and refill and drain the pan a few times.
Here is a method that I've used that works really well.

As Max says, drop the pan. However, loosen the bolts a little and then loosen the front ones a little more to let the ATF drain out slowly. It's very messy if you don't have a lift or somewhere to place a large receptacle to catch the fluid.
After you have the pan off, install a drain plug kit. There are several on the market B & M makes one. I purchased one manufactured by TCI automotive. Part #805800, "Drain Plug Kit Universal".

TC drain plug on 4R75W
Is there a T/C drain plug on a 2004 Expy with the 5.4L and 4R75W. I looked at the tranny today and there was a rubber plug on the bottom of the bell housing but I did not have time to turn the engine over and look for it. There is also a rubber plug on the front of the bell housing on the drivers side hmmm?
If your pan does not have a drain plug, buy the drain plug kit. Then, BEFORE DROPPING THE PAN, drill a pilot hole for the plug kit and let the fluid drain from there. I used 3/16" bit. It worked great! No mess, well not too much. Then dropping the empty pan is a snap.

Hi Guys,
My 30K service is coming up on my 2003 F-150 SuperCrew.
What type of transmission fluid & filter does the dealership use, and how many quarts of fluid goes in these trannies?
Sorry for the newbie question and I know I could have probably found this info if I had done a search.
Thanks in advance.

I have a 99 with the 4r70W. I changed the fluid at 40,000 miles using the procedure from the link. However, it was a PIA. Starting and stopping the truck took forever. I now have 80k and am ready to change the fluid again.
So I am assuming that my truck does have the TC plug. Thus I would have to rotate the engine until the plug is visible? Is this process easy? How many quarts does the TC hold? If I dropped the pan and drained the TC, will this be sufficient?
Thanks,
kev

kev,
I am draining my TC as I type this. I have an '01 w/the 4r70w. All I did was pop the rubber plug and used a screw driver to turn the flywheel from underneath the truck. It isn't that hard. As soon as I found the tc plug I started backing it out with an 11mm socket on a 4" extentsion. Had my drain pan already under the spot and let 'er rip ( I was on a parts run just prior so the fluid was nice and warm, flowed great!).
The majority of fluid will come from the TC. I have a 15qt drain pan and it is over 1/2 full already. Since I'm dropping the pan while I'm doing this, I'm going to add a drain plug kit. You might as well do a filter change while your at it.
I'll post again after I'm done...
