Just had transmission fluid changed on my 97 4X4 4.6L at dealership. Now tranny leaks like a SOB. Never any problems before w/78000 miles. Did mechanic do something wrong?

Welcome ! Clean it off, find where it's leaking, and compare that to what was done during the fluid change.

 

Leaking from transfer case. Took back to dealer said its back seal on transfer case. Want 150$ parts & labor. Is that reasonable? Is it likely that it's a coincidence or is the mechanic at fault?

I would be immediately suspicious if my tranny started dumping fluid after service. I would find where it was leaking myself, but if it is leaking from where you were told, it has nothing to do with a proper fluid change. The price is high, but appropriate for a Ford dealership.

 

Thanks Max, appreciate the response. It is leaking ffrom transfer case. Just bad luck I guess.
