Automatics SUCK!

Why doesn't Ford have a manual trans option for the Supercrew? Anyway, I have a '03 Supercrew and was wondering if anyone can tell me if there's anything I can do to make the converter lock up more quickly/consistently, short of having to get a new one. I'm using a Superchips Microtuner and that helps the shifts but doesn't do much for the converter. Anyone???

Thanks,
SMC

I wish there was a manual option too. I don't know of a way to make the TC lockup better like you want. I have an inconsistent problem with hard to sometimes really hard shifts from 1st to 2nd.

Well there are aftermarket options out there. You should be able to find entire race torque converters. Factory Tech should have something along those lines if you have a 4R70W. I know they have all sorts of stuff for the 4R100. There are ways to manually keep the torque converter engaged. You also might look at the Factory Tech Valve Body since it will mechanically increase line pressures which will may some with the torque converter. I can't think of a whole lot of other products out there that mechanically inrease line pressures, though quite a few do it other ways. If you want torque converters theres companies like Suncoast, Factory Tech, etc that are all making race converters, though they're not going to be cheap.

Start with a shift kit or valve body. They make before and after seem like two different transmissions.

Ford didn't give the manual option because they claim the manual cannot take the power the newer auto's can.
A good converter and a shift kit will make the auto outperform a manual anyday.

You think that the Automatic sucks, just be happy that you do not have the 5 speed manual Mazda POS that I have in my '99.

I agree!

I changed my fluids @ 40,000 miles to Redline D4 ATF fluid and it lasted until 60,000 miles. I just put in Redline MTL. Shifts are a bit smoother like when I changed the fluid at 40, but we have to see how long it lasts.

Just be glad its not an option. If you really want a stick, get a F250.
