honestly, way too much. any articles i've seen on it have said that it takes too many parts to do, on that's on older ones. a new one would be ten times worse. you'd end up with a 4x4 that cost twice as much and was worth nothing because no one would buy it from you.
i would just go buy a 4x4 if that's what you want.

i have heard of people converting to a solid front axle with leaf springs that would be the easiest route to go other then buying a 4x4. but there will be alot of fabrication and welding to do.

The 4x4 and 4x2 frames are different. Sooo you will need to purchase a 4x4 frame. The munting points for the lower control arm are closer inboard on the 4x2. There is no provision for mounting the front differential. A solid axle would be the easiest and that in itself would be a royal PITA! No to say don't do it but let us know which way you want to go.

Sell your truck and buy a 4x4, you would still save money over doing a conversion.
