Gear selector problem-4r100 w/5.4 liter

When I shift from park to reverse, it jumps past reverse into neutral. I then have to shift from neutral to reverse. Its almost as if there is something worn which makes it jump past reverse. Once in reverse, everything works great.

Ideas? Why would it jump past reverse from park? It's almost as if the notched wheel in the tranny is worn and I shift right past reverse....

HAs anyone heard of this before?

Most likely it is a damaged column. These columns are known to break when people force them out of park without depressing the brake.

My door sticker has a tranny code E. I havent counted pan bolts or anything though to see, but definitely looks more than 14. The tranny dipstick does not say anything on it about using Mercon V either.

The pan itself is not flat, but rather has a deep depression in it where I assume the fluid pickup is.

Sounds like a 4r100, right? IF need be, I can crawl under and take a pic with my camera later today.
