What type of transmission?
trans code???
I have been looking at the post, and I still am not positive what trans I have. On the door jam would it have "TR with a U" under it for 4R70W, the pan has the hump in the center.
The truck is a 01 Screw, 5.4 4X4.
Trans line got pulle out of the cooler by a swtump under water, big mess but I just want to put the right fluid in it.
Last Question what is the very best fluid, and how many Quarts..
She gets only the best.
Thanks...

transmission type
As max mitchell has said, a "U" on the door panel
indicates a 4R70. From the truck manual, a 4R70
uses 13.9 qts of fluid.
For fluid type, the manual says MERCON V.
Hopefully, the dipstick will also have MERCON V
as the label. If the dipstick is unlabeled, go with
MERCON V. If the dipstick says MERCON,
hopefully someone else on the forum can give
some advice.

i have a 5 speed auto in my 97 F150 what model would that be im having problems finding specs on it? where can i look on the truck to find out which tranny i have i think it might be the 5R55E/5R55N
Ok, now I am a little confused.
I have a '95 F150 with the 4r70w transmission. The dipstick says use only Mercon, not Mercon V. So Mercon V wasn't available in '95. So, do I use Mercon, or Mercon V, or would either do the trick? And, why can't I use a branded product (Havoline) which states it is compatable for all Ford transmissions?
Thanks,

The 5R55E is used in the Ranger. The 5R55N was used in the Lincoln LS and Thunderbird, but the 5R55N isn't built anymore.
You have a 4R70W or E4OD.
Look on the blue sticker on the driver's door jamb. Under TR is a U or an E. The U means 4R70W, the E means E4OD.
well thats a releif... my windows sticker said 5 speed auto and im gladd its the 4 speed or else it'd be hell having it rebuilt and hell finding upgrades for it. but i check the door sticker and its the 4R70W
