e40d vs. 4r70 ?

What are the main differences and will the 4r70 hold up to towing a 25 ft. fifth wheel?

4R70W - Stands for: 4 Speed, Rearwheel drive, Up to 7000lbs, and Wide Ratio. Newer wide ratio'd electric version of the AOD, much stronger and more durable. Fully electronic shifts and lockup.

E4OD - Electronic 4-Speed Overdrive; basically an electronic lockup version of the C6 with overdrive. Not too strong in stock form due to very slow shifts and low clutch count, but can be built to be a beast. 1995+ are better cores but the 1989-1994 can be retrofitted with the newer internals. This is going in place of my AOD when the 408 comes together. I don't want to have to think about a transmission again once I get this built and installed.

The E4OD is a monster, I have one going in my truck when my AOD goes south again. Got a nice reman box with less than 7K mi for $25! I'm gonna toss in a TransGo and see how far that will take me. The E4OD is a HD tranny, it's considerably longer and wider than the 4R70W.

You can build a 4R70W to be able to do some good towing...basically the same stuff that goes into an AOD goes into it. In stock form, get a BIG cooler on there and a nice built valve body. For the DYI I'd use TransGo or Superior.
