Problem when in 4H..

Hey all, i'm new here just got me a 98 F150 Supercrew 4x4 Offroad. Anyway the problem I seem to be having is that my truck dosen't run right when I switch from 2h to 4h, it just jumps forward and stops over and over again when i'm pressing the gas and the tires seem to be screaching. Let me just say that this is my first truck, i've always had little 4 banger imports and crap like that so i'm new to this Triton 5.4 V8 stuff and I know absolutely nothing about this truck or any truck really (But I must say I LOVE THIS TRUCK!!) Anyway the truck runs perfectly fine in 2H except for a little shaking when its idle (only @ 6-7000 rpm's) but I think it may be the IAC Valve. Any help would be greatly appreciated and I look forward to beeing an active member of this board!

Do you have it in 4H while on dry pavement? That will cause what you are seeing, plus break things.

Yes it was on dry pavement. Like I said I've never had a 4x4 before so I really have no idea wtf i'm doing lol. I thought it was a mechanical problem but if it's just my stupidity then all is good. I only had it in 4H for 2 seconds tops then I put it back in 2 and it was fine. Thanks for the reply.

Do you have the same size tires on all 4 wheels? What speed where you going when you switched?

I'll switch mine into 4h while stuck in traffic every now and then to just "exercise" the system...... I keep the speed down and don't make any sharp turns. I don't have any of the symptoms you talk about.

Now, if you were going faster then 55 mph and/or made very sharp turns while on the pavement, then that's not good and could produce the symptoms you mention.

Good luck!

I was pulling out of a parking space in a parking lot so my wheel was turned and it was on dry pavement.
