Question prroblems w/ manual

I have a 1995 F-150 w/4.9&4spOD tag on door says "M". Going down the road it worked fine then stopped at a stop sign and put it in 1st nothing, put it in 2nd nothing, third works. No noises or warning signs except parked in 1st put in N and still in 1st. No noises. Mechanic says it 's shot can it be fixed or is there a history with this tranny? 72K miles and I know built FORD TOUGH can't believe it isn't simple. hope I can fix w/o repacing! Thanks

sounds like a shift fork / syncro problem would have to pull tranny inspect internals and replace whats bad can be done but would be cheaper to find used tranny and swap it out. not sure but that might be one of those trannys that bolt to the bellhousing makes it real easy to take out. then you can remove the top cover and look inside.
