Success!!!

I wanted to just reiterate the fact that a $25-30 investment into you shuddering transmission can make a world of difference!!

I changed the trans filter on friday an noticed a world of difference with shifts!!

If you are having a shudder, take the 30 bucks and 30 minute to change it. You will be happy!!

What was wrong with the old trans filter?

I was wondering, do all ford trucks use the same type of transfilter.
If not, could a wrong type of filter cause shudder.

installing fresh fluid of the correct type would have more to do with eliminating shudder than the filter change. IMO.

Did you just drop the pan, change the filter and then put 4 quarts of fresh fluid back in?

From what I have seen there are two common types of tranny filters. There is a screen filter element,

or a paper/cardboard type of element.

I honestly dont know which is better though?

Yep, very simple...

I removed the bolets, dropped the pan (watch for the fluid) and filter. Replaced the filter and pan, then added 3 quarts and started the truck for a few minutes.

I then ran it throught the gears and check the fluid and added as nessesary.

Added 4 quarts total.

LOL - just changed mine as well... 110K miles and it STILL had the dustplug in there!! sigh.

I noted a massive difference in the smoothness of the truck shifting, especially if I was heavy on the gas. So smooth in fact that I stopped being able to feel it shift into OD on the highway - got me nervous until I looked at the Tach -

I've been using the newer 'total' trans flush every 20,000 for the last 100,000+. Some places call it a T-tech flush. With this method they run a cleaner through the system and add a conditioner to the new trans fluid. I just didn't feel comfortable leaving the filter in so long. I had mine replaced 3 weeks ago. The tech showed me the OLD filter and it still looked brand new.

Regular trans flushes if you can afford it and don't worry about the filter!!!!!
