Exclamation O/D Light Flashing

I've got a '94 F-150 with about 151K miles on it. I had to have it towed in last Wednesday because the truck would die when I shifted from Park or Nuetral into gear. They replaced a solenoid and test drove it. After 15 minutes, the truck died. They were able to get it into gear long enough to get it back to the shop where it died again. Then, they replaced a sensor and said it's fixed.

I picked it up tonight (Monday) and on the way home, the O/D light started flashing continuosly with no discernable pattern (ie. no codes that I can detect by counting the number of flashes). The truck didn't seem to have a lot of power, like it was stuck in 3rd gear. I down-shifted to 2nd, then 1st gear while at a traffic light. I couldn't tell a difference. Granted, I've been driving my wife's '03 Explorer for the last few days which is much nicer than my pickup, but I don't remember it being that sluggish.

Any thoughts on what's happening? My game plan is to call the shop first thing in the morning and let them know about the flashing light. But, I'm a little concerned they're not sure what they're doing. They've done good work in the past, but it wasn't tranny related. I'll ask what codes they got when they had it the first time and post them here.

Thanks!

Go straight back to the dealership. When the O/D light is flashing, it is indicating a fault in the tranny, and they can pull a code.

As has been stated elsewhere in this forum- run, don't walk to the shop!

Yeah, I'm taking it back in Thursday morning. I'm on 12-hour shifts until then coming in before they open and going home after they close. We gotta do what we gotta do.

Thanks for the advice.

My 4RW70 ('99) just underwent the wrench after my O/D light started flashing. My code was "Missed 2-3 shift".

The mechanic showed me a box of broken shifter springs. I wasn't the first guy he'd seen. He said a LOT of the '70s break that way.

Also, I had noticed ever since I bought the truck (with 67K on it) that it would coast before grabbing a gear after a good dose of throttle. That is gone now. Truth is, the trans has never worked this well.

So, my tranny didn't make the 100K club. Only made it to 90K.

Fortunately, I had the 6Y/100K powertrain warranty, so the repair cost me only $100.
