Tranny help.

I have a 98 F-150 with a 5.4, Trans Code is E does that mean I have a 4r100 trans? My tourque converter is going bad and my mechanic said it is 600 labor to replace and roughly 300 dollars for the part. It has 136k miles on it and I figure for a couple hundred more I can just replace the tranny. I need to find out for sure what trans I have so I can start pricing out a replacement. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Chris

Trans code E is a 4R100. Just to put this in perspective for you. I had my 4R70W (which will be cheaper than your 4R100) rebuilt, not replaced, in June of 02 to the tune of $1700. Replacement costs I have seen have been between $2000 to $3000 to replace the tranny. Its ALOT cheaper to just replace the torque converter if thats all thats wrong.

I've already found rebuilt 4R100's with a tourque converter for 1050 dollars.
