E4OD stalls in reverse and Manual 1st
OK, guys I have been reading all these transmission problem post and I have one that I can't figure out and nobody can give me a starting place.
I have a 92 F150 300 6cyl with an E4OD (guessing this is also called a 4R70W?) 4x4 115,000 mi
This thing has picked up the habit of stalling when you go to reverse from any other gear about 85% of the time. The real screwey part is the stalling going into manual 1st. Go from Park to drive and the thing goes into gear fine. Then pull it to manual 1 and it will stall. 2 to 1 fine N to 1 fine R to 1 fine P to 1 is fine too.
I thought the TC clutch was dragging but that does not explain why the stall from D to 1???
The transmission doesn't slip, no codes, no flashing OD light, no SES light...not one thing to tell me anything!
About 5 years ago this thing picked up a slam shift from 1 to 2 and I changed the Manual Lever Position Sensor like I found in the Ford shop manual. That fixed it till now. I don't know if that is related but I changed oil and filter at that time too.
Can any of you guys give me some ideas? Trans shop wants about 1800 to rebuild and I don't think it needs a whole trans job. I like to just fix whats broke in my own shop.

I'd try changing gthe solenoid first, I think the part number is E9TZ-7G391-AA but the suffix may be wrong, your dealer can check that, but the base part number is 7G391.
Hope this helps,

Are you thinking the TC clutch solenoind? If so any clue why it just affects these certain shift patterns? I also notice that in the book Reverse and 1st have the highest line pressures. Any relations to the problem.
Man I'm going to have lots of questions.
One more, Where is the solenoid located and how hard to change?
