hard downshift from OD

My 01 Screw 4x4 shifts hard from OD to drive when I come to a hill with the cruise on. Does anybody else notice this? Actually, my last truck, a 92 Z71 (sorry) shifted the same way. I've been told it's better than a sloppy shift.

I have an 01 myself and experience the same problem with or without towing. The hard downshift occurs at any gear above first. is it a valve body problem, or does the whole tranny need to be rebuilt?
Basically it seems like it is not building enough pressure to downshift, then once it does it hits hard and abrupt.

Scott,
You've described my exactly, except I really only notice it for the shift out of overdrive. No other replies to it yet.

Hi slarson,
Just had my truck evaluated by a respectable and very knowledgeble trans shop owner.
Apparently, your situation is not as bad as mine has progressed to. The problem is unfortunately internal. It is your forward clutch that has been burned up. the most noted way that it can happen is if the trans is reverse under a very heavy load for a extended period of time.
I can run my truck with the overdrive turned off and it will shift fine.
Hope I helped to identify your problem.

Thanks, Scott. I'll look into it.
