slight shudder on down shift
I have 6k miles on my new F150 auto. As I come to a stop and the trans shifts down into 1st the truck shudders. This happens all the time. I put it in the shop and I was told this is normal. does anyone else have this problem?? Should i take it to another dealer for a second look?? Thanks for the input :santa:
How much of a shudder are we talking about here? Is it like a slight hickup or closer to lose your lunch sort of airplane turbulence?
Also: Is this as you approach a complete stop or is it after you have actually stopped moving? Has it always done this or did it just start?

It is a very slight shudder...and it is vust before i come to a complete stop...right about the time the trans shifts into first. This shudder is felt every time under these conditions only. I have noticed the problem from day 1.
I think what you're feeling is indeed normal.
It's probably not the transmission, but the engine causing this shudder. When you come to a stop, the IAC (Idle Air Control Valve) controls the idle speed and adjusts for engine load. It's also much more apparent when you have the A/C compressor running because the IAC adjusts for this additional drag on the crankshaft.
I know the feeling you're referring to. My truck has always done it too.
