trans noise

I know that it is hard to explain a noise but my E4OD trans is making a sound like a hydralic motor that is low on fuid. You can hear it in first gear. After that the motor makes too much noise to hear. The trans never uses fluid and it shifts the same. The truck has 62,000 miles on it. The fluid was changed at 50,000 miles. And I hope it is the transmission.:santa:

Thank you MAT88GT for the reply. I just got two hearing aids and now I noticed the noise. This is a releaf to know this now! The next thing I do is a shift kit. I was afraid to do it until I was sure that my trans. was not on the way out. The fluid and filter will be changed when I do it. And after aprox. 10,000 miles it will be flushed.:santa:

samkirk,

There are several things under the hood that can make that noise; the tranny is the most expensive one.

Check the accessory belt, the belt idler bearing, the fan clutch, the alternator, and the power steering pump.

Since you use hearing aids, get a broomstick or the like. While the engine is idling, put the stick against the object you want to listen to, and the other end against your cheekbone. If you find something making the noise, Bingo!

'Course, I'm assuming you haven't already determined the noise is vehicle speed/gear related.

Your other option is to stop using those hearing aids!

Hope this helps.

Thank's Pushrod

I need time to adjust to all of the noise. My wife started the dishwasher and it scarded the $^%*& out of me. I don't know why it doesn't destroy all the dishes.I will try the meathod you told me to use. I think this is the best truck that I ever purchased and want to keep it for a long time. I did add steering fluid last week but I cant find a leak it has 60,000 miles on it now.:santa:
