Question Need help from tranny gurus

I've got a problem with the tranny on my wife's Explorer. The other night the tranny seemed to slip on the 2-3 shift. Yesterday I changed the tranny fluid and filter and the slip is still there. We ran the codes tonight and came up with a P0733 code. Anyone know what could cause this or how to fix it? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Bob

If it's the 5R55E transmission, you probably need rebuild the valve body or replace it. Ford has TSB 02-13-8 out for this and I've seen it a few times.

The rebuild kit includes new seperater plates because the originals were not allowing enough pressure to build for the 2-3 shift. The transmission behaves as though the fluid were low, when in fact the valve body is simply not holding the fluid under enough pressure to make the shift.

If you didn't find any metal flakes when you changed the fluid, replacing the seperater plates is all that's required.

Since there was a TSB for this problem, would the dealership do anything to fix it now? I'm not sure how TSB's work. We just bought the truck 2 months ago.

The TSB states that it is covered under the bumber to bumper warranty.

Ford charges 1 hour diagnostics and 4 hours labor to perform it. I think the parts are around $15.00 or so.

I don't think they'd cover it, but if you've been a good customer at the dealer, you may be able to bargin for a reduction is labor.

Ok, then it looks like I'm going to have to eat the cost of this repair. If forgot to post that the truck is a 2000 with 50000 miles on it so there is now warranty left. I guess 5 hours of labor and some parts are better then a rebuilt tranny.

Thanks again,
Bob

Well here's the latest. I took the truck to the dealer today and they said that the valve body was bad and need to be replaced. They would gladly do this for $1000. I said no way and brought it home. I then called a tranny shop and they said the valve body wouldn't cause the problem that I was having and the tranny would need to be rebuilt which would be $1200. I have no idea what to do now.

Update:
I ended up taking it to the dealer and they put the new valve body in it for me. They ended up paying for half of it so everything is cool again.

Thanks for all the help guys.
