Angry Nasty Grinding Please Help!

I just started having this problem about 2 weeks ago where it's really hard for me to shift into 1st gear many times. It's usually like when I'm at a red light and then when I'm ready to go, sometimes I have to put it into 2nd then can put it in 1st. Either that or I have to seriously ram it into 1st gear.

The second thing which worries me more, is that I am getting a nasty grind whenever I'm shifting from 1st to 2nd or from 3rd to 4th at 3500+RPM even though I have the clutch all the way in.
There's no grind and all is normal when I shift at my normal points @ 2000 RPM.

What can be causing this? Any help gladly appreciated! Thank You

PS Also, if there is a better aftermarket Transmission I can upgrade to what would that be? Who makes one for the 4.2L 5spd and any idea on price?

F150Y2K,

Try bleeding the clutch. When you replaced the clutch did you install a new throwout bearing? It is an integral part of the slave cylinder. It is most likely leaking.

F150Y2K,
Could be a clutch problem but most likely it is suffering from the same thing that mine suffers from. That is, it is a POS. Let me know if you find a replacement. I hope that you have better luck than I have finding one.

Well my clutch like I said is prety new I guess. I replaced it new (everything) about a year ago. Could it be that because I am turning 35s and towing a 12' Trailer with 2 quads once a month my clutch is gonna wear out sooner that normal?

I'm gonna take it in to my mechanic that installed it - and if he says that it's bad I'm gonna go with the Centerforce Dual Friction

A slipping clutch will not cause grinding. It is either the clutch not disengaging properly or an internal tranny problem. The tranny is not the best suited for these trucks so I would not be suprised if the syncros are bad. I run 33s and when I towed my wife's Explorer, 4300 lbs, and it did not grind once. Have your installer look at it so he can determine the exact cause.
