Tranny Fluid
In My 2000 F-150 with trailer pkg., 4.6 V-8, Auto I use Amsoil Synthetic ATF because it exceeds the GM THOT and the Ford ABOT tests, measuring TAN increase over 900+ Hours. My travel trailer is enough of a load over the Rockies to require the extra margin of performance. Mercon V is suitable if your pickup is not used for heavy towing/hauling regularly, and if you have a transmission cooling pkg.
First of all you need to look at your trans dipstick and see what fluid type it has stamped on it.If it says MerconV you most likely have the 4R70W trans. If it says Mercon its most likely the E40D.You cant put MerconV in the E40D.
I've been doing a lot of reading about autos and towing so of course I want to know what transmission my truck has on the vc label it says E. now i've read that it could be either the 4R100 or the E40D my question is what's the difference and is there any where I can go to decifer the vc label for every thing else
thanx in advance
