High HP with 4RW70??
High HP with 4RW70??
Ive got a 4.6L with the 4rw70 tranny, just got the tranny rebuilt about 10,000 miles ago with a stage 2 Transgo shift kit, and a Superchip. Im getting new decked out heads for my truck soon, and that along with all of my bolt ons, Ill probably be pushing 400 at the crank. Is this too much for my transmission?
Thanks!

HI!... It all depends on what they put in your tranny when they rebuilt it. I spent $2500 on my 4R70-W when I had it rebuilt, and that's not including the 2400 stall converter. I am making about 330-345H.P (flywheel) and jusk bought a set of FOX-LAKE/MIKE TROYER fully race ported "P.I" heads with CROWER stage 2 cams and I'll be barely hitting 400H.P (flywheel). No offence but you better re-check your math. My tranny builder said that my race/duty 4R70-W could hold 650FT/LBS of TQ and 550H.P from the engine, so I'm not worried. It's made over 200 passes down the strip and all the street racing and has not had a problem.
Well Im just guesstimating the potential flywheel hp. Ill have dyno sheets after I get the heads on. Plus, the cams in my heads are probably bigger than the ones in your heads, these are Comp Cams .500 lift. Larger aftermarket valves, fully ported and polished, as far as these heads can go. I also will have my headers bolted on, Ive got electric fans, underdrive pulleys, screamin deamon ignition coils, Ford Racing 9mm spark plug wires, denso iridium spark plugs, high flow cats, K&N FIPK2, flowmaster 40 series muffler, fuel pressure regulator, 30lb (i think) fuel injectors, etc. Plus, you cant forget about custom hands on tuning. The guy straps my truck to the dyno, tunes it for its maximum safe performance going through each parameter, changing it, doing another dyno pull. All that with the two program diablo chip for 350 bucks. So I could have a street/strip setup, or a street/towing setup, etc. Anything I want that relates to the computer, he can do. And 40 bucks more for future reburns with new mods. Thats something Superchips wont be able to beat, at least around here.
As for the tranny, I believe when he rebuilt the transmission, he put all new clutches and bands in, along with a new Transgo Shift Kit, and a 2200 stall converter.
Too bad we dont live closer together. Id love to go to the strip with ya! Ill be sure to have videos or at least time slips after I get all of this done!

Youll be crankin way more than 400hp with those heads Neal. That whole setup, Im assuming that you have aftermarket valves, will probably give you close to 100hp at the crank.

F150NASCAR04...sorry to burst your bubble but your hp figures are way off. I believe that Neal will pick up some nice power, but not 100hp.

HI!... Actually MIKE T and I figure on 65-80H.P max out of these heads/cams. You can achieve 100H.P but that is with the same heads but with the very high lift 0.600 lift cams and run it to 6800RPM plus.
When these get bolted on in a few months they will be getting attached to a fully gasket matched extrude hone "99" 5.4 "P.I" intake manifold that will be CERAMIC COATED inside and out and a taller custom fabricated TB ELBOW utilizing a 132MM single bore TB.
The heads are :
- "03" "P.I" heads
- FOX LAKE stage 2 CNC port job
- FERREA oversized stainless steel one piece under cut sodium filled valves
- 3 angle valve job
- CROWER racing springs/retainers/locks
- FORD new lifter
- FORD new roller followers
- hardened valve seats
- bronze guides
- CROWER stage 2 N/A billet cams 0.559/0.570 lift
- Titanium 12 thread spark plug inserts (not heli-coils)

And is your truck going to be put on a dyno and tuned professionally by a Ford expert? Id bet youd get a lot more HP by doing it that way than going with a Superchip where you just tell them what you got and they "tune" it accordingly...
When those heads where on my friends Mustang, he got before and after dynos, he picked up 85HP, and he has the plastic intake manfolds because its a mustang. If he hadnt tampered with the fuel pressure regulator he put on it, he wouldnt have blown the head gasket, but thats what he gained before and after. That was measured at the wheels with a manual tranny. Want to argue, Ive seen the dyno sheets.
So heres a little comparison:
Superchips is to Jet Chip (generic)
is Custom Dyno tuned Diablo is to Superchips (comparitively generic, especially when it comes to custom tuning).
What you must not understand is, when I asked Anita Troyer how they go about reburning the chip, I have to tell them that the heads are ported all the way out, larger valves, .500 lift cams, etc. Now I HIGHLY doubt that Superchips has dynoed an engine exactly like mine to get the MAXIMUM safe power output. I doubt that because there are hundreds of different combinations they would have to take into account for.
My point is, you cannot beat hands on, dynameter tuning by a professional Ford expert who has been doing this for over 25 years.

HI!... MIKE TROYER is a FORD expert when it comes to tuning these trucks. Mike's a personal friend of mine and does ALL tuning on my truck. Either it be on a dyno or genaric mods. Superchip is in a league of it's own and is superior than JET! lol! or DIABLO. He's the "ONLY" one I trust to tune my truck and he's been doing a GREAT job of it so far.

Just wait a few weeks, Ill show all of you what hands on custom tuning can do for me. I bet when Im done Ill hang with Neal in the 1/4 mile, maybe not beat him, but Ill hang with him. Keep in mind I have 3.73 open diff, and Neals got 4.10 posi I think, but the HP numbers ill bet you will be surprisingly close.

Why pay for a few dyno pulls, then pay to send the chip to Superchips along with the 200 bucks to retune it, when I can sell the chip, pay 350 bucks for a 2 program Diablo chip, have it tuned by Ford expert on a dyno, with a computer?? Plus, if i ever need to reburn, it only cost me 40 bucks with more dyno print outs. This guy has been tuning engines, mostly Fords for over 25 years, how many years does troyer have under his belt? Im not saying Troyer isnt a good tuner, but you cannot in anyway, BEAT hands on tuning with a profession computer, and dynameter. Its like trying to diagnos a mechanical problem through the mail, its no way near being as good as having a mechanic on the spot.

You dont have to be so biatchy just because somebody with a smaller engine can pump out equal or more HP and be normally aspirated as well.

Most of the time when people brag about HP & TQ (not you), they are talking large displacement motors. If you talk to the people who are running smaller displacement motors and are making that kind of HP & TQ, they are not doing it by tweaking as you say. They are talking Nitrous, Supercharger and turbos. I also find it hard to believe that a 4.6L can create that kind of HP with just normal bolt-ons and I don't mean nitrous, chargers or turbos.
You only have about half of the stuff that Neal has done to his truck and that thing moves like a scared cat when he wants it to. You talk about the heads making 85 HP on your friends mustang. The motors regardless of if they are the 4.6L motors are completely different, the biggest thing could be the compression ratio, bore & stroke and cam specs, all of which will affect his car completely different when compared to your truck. He may get 85 HP from the heads on his car but you may only get 50 HP from those same heads when slapped on your truck. More food to think about.

I was talking to Stegemeyer(sp?) today, he is the Ford tuner that is going to be tuning my engine once the heads are put on. Looked over my engine, all of my bolt ons, he remembers doing the work on the heads I bought. He said that with my transmission and gears, that I should have no problem putting out 350hp at the rear wheels.
Im a member of the Missouri chapter on fordtruckworld.com's website, and one of my fellow members has a bone stock 5.4. He had some tranny work done to it, and then had it dynoed, 300 ft/lbs at the rear wheels. Thats what a stock 5.4 pulls, he only lost 30ft/lbs through the tranny.
Stegemeyer said that my transmission usually looses about 60hp through the stock drivetrain. Also, he said that compared to my friends mustang, the ported and polished heads with cams and aftermarket valves alone will give me more HP. He said the big reason for that was because the truck 4.6 has the better intake manifold, its aluminum not plastic.
You say I dont have half the bolt ons Neal does?
