Temperature Gauge Installs Voids Warranty ?

I was all set to install a tansmission fluid temperature gauge / sending unit in the line to the radiator, as well as installing a drain plug in the transmission pan while I was doing a fluid change.

While at the local Ford dealer to purchase MERCON V, and a filter, I inquired of the service people if there were any issues relating to warranty? I have 12,000 Kms, /or 11 months left on warranty.

Ford service folks at this dearlership highly recommended I do not do either modification as there could probably be issues if I were to return for warranty service.

Has anyone else encountered this type of response from Ford? Has anyone gone ahead and done these modifications while under warranty and subsequent had to go to Ford for service?

Thanks

moe

I have made modifacations to my truck and have had warranty work done. The warranty work that was done wasn't even remotely related to the mods I did.

If you do any mod, even a CD player, it may effect the way a warranty claim is handled. If you have a claim that is possibly caused by the mod, there is a chance that you may be held responsible for the repair.

If I were in your shoes, I'd assume the risk, because I'd think it's pretty low with this mod. If you did end up with a mod related problem you'd have to be prepared to take care of it.

My mods, though reletively few, effect a large portion of the drivetrain. If something breaks there is a good chance I'll be shelling out some dough. Right now I think it's worth it. I hope I feel the same way if something breaks.
