trns leak

I have a 92 f150 6 cyl w/ e4od trans. The tranny started leaking badly,(lost all fluid within 10 min) appeared to be coming from bellhousing so I assumed it was front seal.
The shop said fluid was also coming out of vent on top.
The mech. said the tranny builds up pressure for some reason and does this, they said it needs rebuilt.
I have had no problems with trans until this happened.
What gives??

Fluid venting the jiggle cap is pretty rare, climb under it and see if the fluid is inside the bell housing, if it is, the front sela is leaking and needs replaced. While you have it out, it does make sense to rebuild it, honestly, but if the fluid is inside the bell, the shop is trying to hose you I think, I'd at least take it somehwere else for a second opinion, and if it's not the same as the first one, I would be real careful about having them do the work. I've seen to many shops doing this stuff to trust many of them.
