How do I indentify the tranny I have????

How do I indentify the tranny I have????
I have a 1997 f-150 4X4 with 4.6. What is the cross reference for the tranny codes on the manufacturers label? All I know it is an automatic.

Trans code U on the plackard on the driver's door means 4R70W. But I am 90% sure all 4.6's are 4R70W.
