46,000 miles
Hey, been a while for me here... I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I have 46,000 miles on my '99 F150 styleside and being on a low govt. income with plenty of bills I have not been able to afford to have the transmission fluid changed by a professional. Can someone tell me if I'm slowly damaging anything? And or what can be the consequences of not having it done at the recommended 30,000. I'm changing the oil every 5k and like to take care of all my stuff.I'm still on the same break pads where in March I was at 70/40. Had the few lube fittings done and I think I might change the plugs since I've been towing a heavy 20' fiberglass fishing boat since November of last year. Thanks guys and any helpful advice I surely appreciate. Especially from you machanics who work on these trucks for a living. You sure know your stuff. If anyone lives in the San Jose bay area and would be willing to help me with this, I'd be happy to pay you but it would have to be a little at a time. Thanks again. Dan

So long as you have a tranny cooler (included with tow package). You should be fine. But I'd plan on changing it at 60. If no cooler, then I think you'd be wise to change it. You can do it your self for just the cost of the fluid, less than $50 if you drain the torque converter too. It really isn't that bad a job if you take your time. Personally I think it's no worse than changing the oil filter. Now that's a pain.
