Got 5200 miles on my 03 Screw and for the first time I felt the "clunk" while waiting my turn at a 4-way stop. It felt like the tranny went into neutral for a split second and then went back into gear. I also on occasion pull a 24 ft. Terry Lite TT and notice that when I top a hill in second gear, the tranny will not shift into third for what seems like a really long time. Even if I completely let my foot off the gas. I really like my Screw but am concerned about the tranny. I thought about taking it to the dealer but know I will get the run around about how they cannot recreate the problem, blah, blah, blah.

I have the SC microtuner installed along with AF1 and MF 15609.

Anyone else have a tranny that doesn't shift into high gear similar to what mine does?

wryan,
my truck does the same thing, i have a 24' wilderness and quite often the truck won't upshift into 3rd gear at a steady speed unless i speed up and then let my foot off the gas. it will do it also when im not towing and i have cruise on, it will hang in 3rd and not shift into OD unless i speed up and then take my foot off the gas. I would like info on this as well. as for the rollback in drive, if you're on a slight incline it should hold, but anything more and it will probably roll back until you apply the gas.
BTW, I have tranny code E, is this the E4OD tranny?
Thanks, Tim

Yes, tranny code E is for the E4OD/4R100 (depending on model year). For your 1997, this is the E4OD (they shifted in '98, if I'm not mistaken).

Question roll back

so is that normal for the trans. to roll back on incline? because of vehicle weight ? or incase you might be pulling something on the hitch and you end up on a incline hill. does the trans allow the roll back too reduce the pressure .

I had the same problem on my 94 F150. It would occassionally do this under moderate to hard acceleration. Ford and AMMCO wanted to rebuild the tranny for $1300, but I had just had Ford rebuild it 40k miles before. I dropped the pan and found the 1-2 servo spring broken. Saved me $1290.
