Question 2001 shifting issue

Just got my truck back from the dealer; they said my problem is "normal"...

2001 F150; 28K miles; 5 speed manual; when shifting to 3rd with RPMs up (or towing a load), there is a "catch" you can feel in the gear shift and an audible "squeak". No problem on down shift. No problem at low RPMs (but when pulling out into traffic you need to get up to speed in a hurry). No problem in any other gear. Problem worsens as it gets warmer, when accellerating uphill, and when pulling a load.

They say "it's the syncro's trying to catch up". Perfectly normal--no service bulletins on it either. Make sense to anyone?

As a fellow owner of a POS Mazda 5 speed, I welcome you to the club. Mine doesn't always do as you describe. Did yours do it when it was new? If not, go back and insist that they fix it. You can also try to drain the oil and replace it with synthetic ATF. That might help a little.

More info?

Did some more homework--anyone have details on TSB 15711? Might this apply in my case?
