Will Bigger Tires = Transmission Issues
You'll may want to have the computer reprogramed. The dealer can do this, or you may even be able to use a Superchips Micro Tuner. Although you may not absolutely need to have this done, the speedo is off and the transmission RPMs are lower than what the transmission and engine are currently programed for.
Original tires were 265/70R17=31.61 inches
New tires are 315/75R16=34.60 inches

thanks for the responces. how easy and at what price will it cost me to program it myself. would it be easier to have the dealer perform the reprogramming? if i leave it alone will my tranny be negatively affected?
ch,
The Dealer will not be able to reprogran as the tires are not within the programmable parameters. What tires do you have now 315/75 17? What were the OEM tires? 265/70 17? If that was so having the dealer cheat by programming 255 70/16 with 3.08 gears will get you close to what it was. from the factory.

I've changed tire sizes twice on my truck. The first time I went smaller, so I had the dealer reprogram it (I didn't want to be logging extra miles). I'd already had my transmission blow, too, so I had extra incentive.
Last September I went back to tires closer to stock size. I drove it without reprogramming for a couple months and enjoyed only logging about 90% of my miles. I've since found out, however, that this is technically odometer fraud. I didn't have any tranny problems during this time (no more than normal, anyway), but the speedo being off drove me to finally have the dealer reprogram again.
The dealer charged $90 each time. After spending $180 on having the dealer do it, I wish I'd have put that $180 toward a Micro Tuner. But hind-sight is 20/20. If you have the money, I'd recommend buying the tuner. You can get it from Mike's site TroyerPerformance.com.
Good luck.
