Faster truck!!!

I have a 4.6 auto in a reg cab 2wd. Mint condition. I KNOW this thing is faster than what it is.

First question, is it necessary to change out my 3.55's for 3.73's or better for a "quicker" truck. I mean quicker like stoplight to stoplight. Not ready for the track yet and I know my gas mileage will become worse.

Reason I ask is, this whole time I have been thinking I need to change my gears because my truck is too slow, but after reading up on the FTVB's, I think this is the answer to my question. Who do I call to get one and what can I expect to pay. I can install my self.

Also, do the 3.55's and the 3.73's make that much of a difference. The 99-00 L came with 3.55's and the 01-up came with 3.73's and a better S/C making for 20more HP but is only .2 seconds faster in the 1/4. I don't want to waste any money because funds are tight. (buying a house and trying to get back into college)

Thanks guys! BTW, I refer people to this site everyday!

Cool

greg evans would be the man to contact...i believe he is a supporting vendor here. if not the L guys know how to find him. he can answere your tranny questions and give you what you need.

as for gears, i do not know what other mods you have...but gears wouldn't be that high on the "bang for buck" list. especially with that small of a change. I don't think the difference would be worth it unless you went to 410's. but thats just an oppinion.

for some more "easy" power i would try maybe a chip, intake, exhaust combo. those seems to work great on these trucks.

good luck.

Excuse my ignorance, but FTVB is......?

I don't know all that much about rear gear changes but from what I've read here the general consensis seems to be that if you're going to upgrade from a 3.55, 4.10s are the way to go.

Depending on the age an mileage of your truck there may be other things that can be done to regain lost HP.

FTVB. Factory Tech Valve Body (for the tranny, to improve shifts under hard acceleration)

Does anyone have a # for Greg. I keep seeing the name but no website or #.
