i have an 00 with 45,000 miles and the trany makes a sound like gear whine only when it is in third i jacked the rear end up and tested it and in no other gear does it whine what could it be?????

 

Doesn't the Lightning whine in every gear, when you put the pedal down?

I couldn't tell you what it is. The torque converter should lock up in the 1:1 ratio in third, right?

Maybe someone else with the 4R100 had this issue? Maybe you ought to do a search in the Lightning forum.

There was a thread in the Lighning forum about torque reduction and the possible problems it can create. Are you running a chip? You might want to check out that thread. It's still in the first couple pages I think.
