Whining Tranny

Hey Guys,

Just wanted to know some ideas/thoughts on why my tranny is whining at 50 mph? It only does it at that speed. Take your foot off the gas, no noise, bring it back up to 50 (whine!) Above that speed, no prob.

I brought it to the dealer earlier this year. The tech heard it as well. He said it was the ring and pinion. They supposedly replaced it but the truck is still doing it?

Any thoughts (aside from raising hell at the dealer)!

well, the ring and pinion is in the rear axle and not the tranny. otherwise i don't know what to tell ya. my s-crew rearend whines and i suspect quite of few of them do. i haven't broached the dealer about this yet...but will before warranty runs out...

just go back and raise hell with the dealership...!

TroyK,

You are correct its the differential. I just wonder what the heck it is. It's funny that your truck is doing it to. I have a friend who owns a tranny shop. Next time I am in his area (sometime this summer) I plan to make an appt and get his thoughts on it.

I will keep ya posted.

My bet is the rear end also. I have had mine rebuilt some 80,000k mi ago and it is starting to get loud agian. I read a thread in the engine section one time about a backlash problem with the rear ends. My complete rebuild was @ $900.00. Was nice and quite for at least 65k mi and then slowly started to make more and more noise. It seems to get to a certian level and then stop. I will drive it this time until trade in time.....
