transmission cooler

I have an E40D automatic transmission w/overdrive on my 1993 f150, extended cab, 8cyl, 5 liter, 3.55:1 rear end, 4x4. I'd like to install a temp gauge to monitor the tranny while I haul a 3500 lb camper. Any suggestions what brand gauge I should buy and exactly where I should install it to get the most accurate read?

three options for the sender..

i dont know exactly on the e4od but on the 4r100, on the drivers side above the shift linkage is a plug, the sender will thread right in....

second is to cut the metal line leading out of the trans to the cooler and splice in a "T" with compression fittings and the sender in the "T" part...

and third is if the plug is not there try the pan, next fluid change drop the pan and get the sender threaded into it...

these also go from most accurate on down IMO...

Auto Meter gauges are nice and you could get a pillar setup with two gauges one for tranny temp, one for coolant temp. That's what I want to do I just need to figure out exactly which gauges and pod i want and need to work. I will probably go thru www.jegs.com
