Transmission shift kit

Hello all,

I am looking to install a shift kit on my E40D to reduce gear changing slippage when pulling a trailer. Whick kits are available (ie:Jet, B&M etc..) and which one from you experience is the best one. I like firm shifts. I am really looking at prolonging my transmission life.
2000 F150 5.4L with E40D tranny.

Your help is much appreciated,
SC

Cool

Talk to Mike T. (See SuperChips Distributor postings for his signature and contact info)

The TransGo is the kit most often mentioned on this site. I personally installed one and could not be happier.

One of the best mods I've done so far...

While I do have a transgo and love it, for the E4OD/4R100, I would go with the Factory Tech Valve Body, it is a complete replacement, and is made by the guy who works on those trannys all day long. I am sure he will chime in in a minute.

I opted for a transgo kit to both firm up shifts and and prolong trans life. Another consideration for longevity of the tranny you might consider is a nice trans fluid cooler. Those who know more than me say that heat is a transmission's worse enemy.

Good luck.

I wrote this about 2 years ago, it gives some info on shift strategy.

Thumbs up

Hi, I have a Baumann shift kit in my truck. I have over 25K on it and I am very happy with it. The best $100 I've ever spent.

Thanks Gregg,

It's almost all chinese to me Your document and web site only mentions the 4R100, do you manufacture aFactory Tech Accumulator Shift Kit for a E40D (cna't see anything on your website)? How much is it? Do you have distributors in Canada?
Can a DIYer perform the upgrade by himself?

I need one fast before the hauling season starts.

Thanks for your help,
SC

The 4R100 is the current E4OD.

I'd personally go with the valve body. It's easily installed and removed (completely reversible), and unlike the TransGo kits I haven't heard af a single transmission failure related to its use.

If you look through the Lightning Forum, you'll find how pleased owners are with their Factory Tech VB.

Is there only one place to get Gregg's valve body? Any distributors in Canada?

Thank you,
SC
