Post Transmission temp sending unit install

Hey guys,

New to the board, wanted to get some information on installing a tranny temp sending unit. Since I tow frequently with my truck I want to be able to keep an eye on it. I plan on using a VDO vision series 300 degree guage. I called Summit and they have both pipe thread and metric sending units. Where is the best location for installing the sending unit? Which sending unit do I need? This is on a `01 with the 5.4L. Is there a web site that has instructions on it?

Thanks,
Ro

Try a search. I'm sure there will be others who have done it.

I did a search and nothing came up. If you could point me in the right direction I would appreciate it

I just did a search for temp gauge and came up with at least 4 pages of threads. Don't hesitate to come back with a specific question though.

Cool

Dutch74 -

I installed a tranny temp gauge recently in my '01 'Screw. Something you may want to consider is an outboard fluid filter. Got mine from PermaCool and it is already tapped for a tranny temp sending unit. Only cost about $50 US...

Otherwise, I found this:

There is a port on the driver's side of the transmission. It has a pipe plug in it, and it's a 1/8 NPT thread. It will give the same temperature readings as installing the sender in the pan.
Mark K is generally considered an expert in this arena, so take it and run!!

BTW -

If you do a search, use: temp gauge as the keywords and select "Search Titles Only" from the "Search Options" area of the search section and you can read quite a few threads regarding this same thing...

Good luck !!

Ok, I found it, leave it up to a newbie not to be able to figure out how to use the search engine correctly!
Thanks Ro
