VSS gear?

I just got my 98 F150 4x4 lifted with the 5 inch RCd Kit and got 35 inch tires. My truck has the 4.6 in it with the 4r70w trans and $:56 gears were also installed. What is the right vss/speedo gear? What color is it and how many teeth are on it? Any help here guys that have 4:56 gears and 35 inch tires?

You may need to get the PSOM reprogrammed by the dealer. If my memory serves me (sometimes it does not) your vehicle speed signal may be taken from the RAB sensor in the diff, unless they stopped doing that in 98 models. Do you have a speedo in the T-case?

BLU98,
Your truck does use the speedo gear to correct the speedometer (both 97 and 98).
Heres a calculator that should help you out.

http://www.finer.com/internet/pages/speedo.htm

You are probably going to need the 23 tooth, available from Mustangs unlimited. The Ford dealers only have up to 21 tooth. I'm running the 23 tooth with my 410's but much smaller tires.
The main drive gear on the truck 4r70w trans is the 8 tooth.
Good luck and have fun.

Actually I just calculated it out for your truck and it came up with the 21 tooth gear. Thats good because it is more durable then the 23 tooth gear. You can get that from any dealer.
