Neutral slams
I've never done that and never will.
I'm sure your friend is a swell guy (maybe a little bit of a hick), but I don't feel he's thinking this through. A neutral slam is going to put incredible amounts of stress on the transmission, instantly. If you can't convince him it's bad by just telling him, maybe you can prove it to him by having him do it every time he leaves a stop light.
Could be a costly lesson. Bring your video camera

It can also be great for "funniest home videos" situations...

Well, your friend is not the brightest of guys, If he thinks that a "neutral slam" is okay; have him do it all the time. Just make a bet with him so you can make some money off his stupid *** when he breaks his truck. Here is a partial list of problems: Torque converter could ballon and toast his thrust bearing in the motor (effectively destryoing a motor by sending bearing debris through the oil system), snap an input shaft, shear the teeth off your forward gears, twist the teeth on your output shaft (I had a tranny that did this in stock form just from torque) destroy clutches, destroy bands, twist a driveshaft (try getting that to balance) break a ring or pinion gear, not to mention all of the assorted bearings he is abusing. Plus he will be putting in transmission mounts, and motor mounts because they ripped apart. If this is not enough money for him, let him "neutral slam" all he wants. I think I remember that most 16 year olds do this type of manuever as they don't have a powerful enough vehicle. Try putting down some water and power braking, it is a little easier on the drivetrain.

I remeber a friend in high school doing this with his mother's Datsun 610 wagon. 5000rpm in neutral, drop it in drive and it still wouldn't squawk the tires! It sure sounded brutal, though.

In the days of my youth I did that with my friends car and wound up cracking the transmission case around the bell housing. It just did'nt drive right after that so we looked under the hood and saw daylight while looking down at the ground through the bell housing.
He was'nt even mad because he knew he was getting a new tranny that weekend on account of my antics.
Neutral Slams ........... no good can come of this!!
