Trans Fluid Change Nightmare !

I took my truck to the shop for a Trans. Fluid change. And the Tech said it would take an hour. But it took three hours for them to do it ! They had three different part stores deliver the filter and eveytime it was not the right filter. The Tech tould me that the part numbers matched the book, but not match what was in it. He finally got the right filter, and he told me that my truck might have been a mid year. Because the trans. that I have did not match the engine. What do you think ????

I have a 01' Sup. Crew, 5.4L, Automatic
I bought it in October of 2000

Well the 5.4 has two diff trannys. It is either the 4r70 or 4r100. My guess is they kept bringin the one for the 70 and somebody finally figured out it was the 4r100.

If that's the case then I wonder what kind of transmission fluid they put in? Doesn't the 4r100 take Mercon III and the 4r70 takes Mercon V?

The 4R70W is a merconV transmission. The first link will take you to the place where he talks about fluid type. "What transmission fluid should I use?"

You people are so weird Whomever changed your fluid is truely clueless.

Ford offers just one transmission with the F-150 SuperCrew and that is the 4R70W, regardless of engine size. This transmission requires Mercon V.

For 1997-1999, Ford offered the 4R100 with the 5.4L engine as an option on the Light-Duty F-150. But, since 1999, this transmission is only available on the 7,700 Lb payload F-150, Supercharged HD and Lightning (as far as F-150's go). The 4R100 requires regular Mercon fluid.

I don't know what the heck Mercon III is

A Supercrew can get a 4R100, it depends on which emmissions package you have.

I knew I was right! It wouldnt make sense for Ford to offer it in specialty vehicles only. I BELIEVE it is more common in 4x4's or/with the tow haul package. The 7700 payload package Comes w/ the 8 lug axles I believe and upgraded suspension and no diff in tranny but dont quote me on that.

What

I've seen people say Mercon III before, yet I've never actually seen any Mercon III. The bottle says Mercon/Dexron III, not Mercon III/Dexron III.
